eBay buys secondhand app Tise to appeal to Gen Z shoppers
Ebay acquires Norwegian social marketplace Tise to deepen its appeal to younger buyers amid competition from Depop and Vinted.

eBay said Thursday it has acquired Tise, a Norwegian marketplace for secondhand fashion and interior design items, in a bid to appeal to younger shoppers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tise describes itself as a social marketplace, with features that let users follow sellers and receive personalized product recommendations. It had previously attracted investment from eBay's venture arm in 2022.
The deal comes as eBay faces competition from Depop and Vinted in attracting Gen Z and millennial shoppers in the secondhand market. To compete, it has overhauled its pricing model, scrapping private selling fees and adding a buyer fee on purchases. The buyer fee structure includes 7% of the item value up to £20, 4% on the portion between £20 and £400, and 2% on the portion from £300 to £4,000, with no fee on the portion of the price over £3,000.
In a statement, Oliver Klinck said, "This acquisition is a natural next step in our investment in Tise, which will allow us to accelerate Tise's strategy and unlock new opportunities for innovation." The acquisition is said to expand Ebay's customer offerings and connect with the next generation of enthusiasts.
Ebay noted the deal will "open the door to a vibrant community of Gen Z and Millennial enthusiasts." No financial terms were disclosed, and the company characterized the move as part of a broader effort to deepen its social commerce capabilities.
