Former Victorian police cell block in Nuneaton to be auctioned with £170,000 guide price
2,126 sq ft red-brick building that later housed a music bar and restaurant goes under the hammer on Sept. 18

A former Victorian police cell block in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, is being offered for sale at auction with a guide price of £170,000, the auctioneer has said.
The two-storey building, which spans about 2,126 square feet, occupies a town-centre location adjacent to the Ropewalk shopping complex and retains many of its original features, including red-brick construction and crenellations typical of the period. It was most recently used as a bar and live-music venue operating under the name The Jailhouse.
Internally, the property includes elements associated with both its 19th-century origins and its later commercial use. The sale listing highlights barred windows, exposed brick walls, vaulted ceilings and what appears to be a coat-check counter and a bar counter remaining from the building’s operation as a hospitality venue.
The building’s past functions have included use as police holding cells for those detained by local law enforcement. In its later incarnation as The Jailhouse, the site hosted live music and served food and drink, operating as a neighbourhood entertainment venue prior to being placed on the auction schedule.
Auction House Coventry & Warwickshire is handling the sale, which is scheduled for 18 September. The guide price of £170,000 has been published in the auction details; interested buyers will be able to bid at the auction or follow the auctioneer’s registration process as set out by the house.
Properties converted from historic public buildings into commercial or residential uses appear regularly on the market in the Midlands, with buyers often attracted by distinctive architectural features and central locations. This Nuneaton site’s combination of retained period detail and more recent hospitality fittings could appeal to purchasers seeking a commercial leaseholding, a conversion project or an investment, depending on planning and licensing constraints.
Potential bidders should consider the implications of adapting a Victorian-era structure, including any conservation or planning requirements, and the condition of retained building fabric. The auction listing notes the building’s size across two floors but does not prescribe a future use; local authority planning rules will govern any change of use or substantial structural alteration.
The auction will proceed under the terms published by Auction House Coventry & Warwickshire. Further details, including viewing arrangements and legal pack information, are available from the auctioneer ahead of the 18 September sale date.
