Hundreds of thousands of Amazon products recalled over safety concerns

More than half a million products sold through Amazon and other retailers have been recalled over safety concerns, including suffocation, injury and fire hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The agency identified five items sold through Amazon that were pulled from circulation after internal reports and regulatory noncompliance, Newsweek reported.

One recall covers LXDHSTRA-branded baby loungers and crib bumpers sold between May and August this year. The recall was announced on Sept. 18 after regulators found the products violated the mandatory standard for Infant Sleep Products. Inspectors found that the loungers’ sides were too low to contain an infant, the sleeping pad was too thick, and enclosed openings at the foot were wider than allowed, creating fall and entrapment hazards. The loungers also lack a stand, increasing fall risk. Crib bumpers—already banned under the Safe Sleep for Babies Act—were sold with the loungers and could obstruct breathing or cause suffocation. About 360 units were sold under LXDHSTRA. No injuries have been reported. Refunds are available upon proof of destruction; buyers are instructed to cut the loungers and bumpers in half and email photos to lxdhstrarecall@gmail.com.

Separately, roughly 480,000 Anker Power Banks were recalled due to overheating lithium-ion batteries. The CPSC says the devices have sparked 33 fires and caused four burn injuries and property damage. Models A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681 and A1689, sold January through July 2024, are affected. Consumers should stop using the devices and dispose of them following hazardous-waste rules. Refunds are available through Anker's recall page.

About 1,800 YooxArmer multi-purpose kids' helmets were recalled after failing to meet federal bicycle safety standards, including requirements for impact attenuation, positional stability, labeling and certification. The recall notes that the helmets may not provide adequate protection in a crash. No injuries have been reported so far.

Amazon-sold Youbeien crib mobiles were recalled over unsafe battery compartments in their remote controls. The recall covers about 3,000 products sold under the GKKBSJ label. The design allows access to button or coin batteries, which can cause severe injuries if ingested. Consumers should stop using the products and submit disposal photos to GKKBSJ to obtain refunds.

About 22,600 Buddy Portable Misting fans from IcyBreeze Cooling were recalled after reports of overheating during charging. The fans, sold between November 2023 and August 2024, use lithium-ion batteries and have been linked to seven incidents, including two fires. Buyers are urged to stop using the fans and can receive a $150 credit from IcyBreeze after providing disposal proof.

Amazon says its product safety team proactively investigates and addresses reported safety complaints to protect consumers, and that it halts affected product offerings and promptly informs customers and sellers when recalls occur.

The recalls illustrate ongoing safety oversight in online marketplaces and the U.S. push to curb hazardous consumer goods, with regulators continuing to monitor and respond to new incidents as they arise.
