Liverpool John Lennon Airport introduces flexible early-morning check-in for budget flights

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has unveiled a flexible check-in system designed to ease early-morning departures for travelers using budget airlines. Under the new rules, passengers on easyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair flights departing before 8 a.m. can check in hold luggage up to three hours before departure, giving them more time in the Departure Lounge.

An additional feature, Twilight check-in, will allow Jet2 and Jet2holidays passengers to check in the night before their flight. The process begins with online check-in via Jet2's website, app or a travel agent at least 24 hours before departure. Hold luggage can then be dropped at Jet2 check-in desks at Liverpool Airport between 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. the evening prior to departure. The following morning, travelers can head straight to security, bypassing the regular check-in line.

Travelers should verify baggage rules with their carrier, as other operators at the airport may have different limits and fees. In addition to the named budget carriers, Aer Lingus, Wizz Air and Dan Air also operate at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, so passengers should confirm size, weight and fee policies before arriving.

The policy arrives as the airport has earned positive consumer recognition. Liverpool John Lennon Airport topped Which? magazine's Best Airports list for the second consecutive year, scoring 78 percent in the publication's ratings. Airport officials said the flexible check-in option is designed to give travelers more control over their pre-flight schedule and reduce stress ahead of early departures.

Officials also note that travelers should plan to arrive at least two hours before departure to allow time to check in, pass through security and reach gates.

Industry observers say the move reflects a broader trend in airports toward time-shifted check-in options aimed at easing congestion and improving the passenger experience. Twilight check-in is already used by Jet2 and Jet2holidays as part of their approach to smoother early-morning travel.
