Report: Ex-Nestlé CEO’s Dismissal Followed Alleged Hotel Confrontation and Anonymous Complaint

Laurent Freixe, the former chief executive of Nestlé, was dismissed Sept. 1 after the company concluded he failed to disclose a relationship with a direct report, and Swiss reporting says an alleged confrontation in Zurich and a subsequent anonymous complaint triggered the internal probe that led to his firing.

Nestlé issued a statement saying Freixe, 63, was dismissed for failing to disclose a relationship with a direct report, which the company described as a breach of its code of conduct. A later account by the Zurich-based financial news site Inside Paradeplatz, cited by other outlets, reported that a senior executive said to be Freixe’s mistress found him in a Zurich hotel with a different subordinate and filed a complaint through Nestlé’s anonymous hotline, prompting the investigation.

Inside Paradeplatz reported that the alleged hotel confrontation set off a chain reaction inside Nestlé, the world’s largest food company. According to that account, the executive who later filed the complaint had been regarded within the company as Freixe’s "official" mistress; the person who allegedly accompanied Freixe in the Zurich encounter was described as a subordinate and a former senior marketing executive who left the company earlier this year.

The Swiss outlet also reported that Nestlé chairman Paul Bulcke and vice chair Pablo Isla confronted Freixe in person after learning of the matter. The company has not publicly detailed those exchanges. Nestlé’s statement on Sept. 1 gave the reason for the dismissal as non-disclosure of a relationship with a direct report, reiterating that the conduct violated the company’s internal rules.

Freixe’s removal marked a sudden top-level change at the corporate group based in Vevey, Switzerland. The company has emphasized adherence to its code of conduct and internal reporting mechanisms, including an anonymous hotline intended to surface potential breaches of policy.

Nestlé did not release specifics about the internal investigation or identify the individuals involved. Inside Paradeplatz’s account attributes the sequence of events to unnamed sources familiar with the matter; other media outlets have repeated those details while noting they stem from that reporting. Nestlé declined to provide additional public comment beyond its statement about the reason for the dismissal.

The controversy underscores the role of corporate governance procedures and whistleblowing channels in multinational companies. Nestlé’s code of conduct requires employees, particularly those in leadership positions, to disclose relationships that could create conflicts of interest or breaches of company policy. The company has in recent years reiterated its expectations for ethical behavior among executives as part of broader governance and compliance efforts.

Freixe, a French national who had been a member of Nestlé’s executive structure, had not publicly commented on the reports as of the latest company statement. The company has begun internal steps to manage the leadership transition while continuing operations across its global businesses.

Observers said the episode could prompt closer scrutiny of executive conduct and the effectiveness of disclosure policies at large consumer goods firms. Nestlé’s board will oversee the search for stable leadership and is expected to address any governance questions arising from the incident during upcoming investor and regulatory briefings.

Reporting on the internal dynamics continues to develop. Media accounts have relied on the Inside Paradeplatz report for the more detailed narrative of events surrounding the complaint and the alleged hotel encounter; Nestlé has grounded its public explanation in a violation of its disclosure rules. The company’s next public filings and board communications are likely to provide further clarity on the timeline and governance responses.
