Guernsey Electricity hosts energy-saving show to cut winter bills
Powering Life for Less Show at St Pierre Park Hotel will offer practical tips and access to advisers

An energy-saving event aimed at helping islanders reduce winter electricity costs is being held in Guernsey. Guernsey Electricity will host the Powering Life for Less Show at St Pierre Park Hotel, running from 10:00 to 15:00 BST, with advisers on hand to provide practical advice on how to use appliances more efficiently and lower household bills.
Gareth Wordingham, a representative of Guernsey Electricity, said the event would offer tips on the best ways to use common household appliances and how residents can cut expenses across the home. “What we're looking for is helping all people on Guernsey reduce their expenses both on energy and more widely across the home,” he said, noting that the event also features partners who can offer savings opportunities and home-management tips that attendees can apply immediately. Wordingham added that customer services advisers would be available to help with bills, along with the Repair Cafe, the Guernsey Welfare Service and the Little Green Energy Company.
He stressed there are many practical steps residents can take to save energy and money. “Almost 90% of customers in Guernsey have a two-rate meter and are on super economy 12, and so if you use your electricity at those cheaper times you can save over 50% of the cost for it,” he said. He also highlighted simple tweaks such as setting washing machines and dishwashers to eco mode could lead to savings of more than 35%. “We'll be there helping people [to know] how to set their immersion heaters so it doesn't come on too often and saves money for them in that way as well,” he added.
In addition to tips on appliance use, the event will connect attendees with advisers who can explain tariffs, help review bills and point residents to local services that support energy efficiency. The Repair Cafe, the Guernsey Welfare Service and the Little Green Energy Company are among the partners participating, underscoring a community-focused effort to ease the financial strain of rising energy costs and help households adopt energy-saving practices as the winter months approach.
Officials characterized the event as part of a broader, ongoing effort to empower islanders with practical tools to manage energy expenses. By focusing on off-peak usage, efficient appliance settings, and personalized bill support, organizers hope the show will yield tangible savings for families and individuals across Guernsey, while also boosting awareness of available local resources. The timing aligns with seasonal demand, as households prepare to heat homes during potentially cooler and costlier months.
