Brad Pitt Exhausted on Cliff Booth Set as Robert Redford Funeral Looms

Brad Pitt was seen looking exhausted during a night shoot in Los Angeles on Tuesday for his upcoming film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, as the industry prepared for the funeral of his longtime mentor, Robert Redford, who died last week at age 89. Pitt, 61, wore a shag wig secured by hairstylist Araxi Lindsey over a shaved head, accessorizing with a puka-shell necklace, a bottle-patterned shirt and baggy blue jeans. He was photographed on set filming a scene with Canadian actress Lauren Glazier. Pitt serves as a producer on the project and reprises his role as the titular stuntman-turned-fixer in David Fincher’s sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Quentin Tarantino serving as writer-producer. The film’s ensemble also includes Timothy Olyphant, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, Elizabeth Debicki, Corey Fogelmanis, Scott Caan and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. While not confirmed, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie are rumored to reprise their roles as Rick Dalton and Sharon Tate from Tarantino’s revisionist fairy tale, which grossed about $392.1 million worldwide in 2019.

Redford's passing has cast a shadow over Hollywood this week as Pitt prepared for Redford’s funeral in Utah. Redford’s widow, Sibylle Szaggars, is expected to keep the service private; a spokesperson for Redford told Rob Shuter, “No red carpets. No cameras. No Hollywood circus. The family requests privacy.” The two men had a longstanding professional and personal history, co-starring as CIA agents in Tony Scott’s Spy Game (2001) and Redford directing Pitt in A River Runs Through It (1992). Pitt had recalled Redford’s influence on his career, saying in 1996, “Redford made us better. He was the real star of the film. The way he put it together. The way he told the story and he elevated us.”

The timing of Redford’s death underscored Pitt’s ongoing professional and personal commitments in Hollywood. In addition to his work behind the camera, Pitt has been active in the film and entertainment business, including his Plan B Entertainment banner. Publicly reported moves include the sale of his three-bedroom Los Feliz home—the so-called “Steel House”—to actor Austin Butler for about $5.2 million, months after the property was burglarized, and his acquisition of a six-bedroom Hollywood Hills residence in Outpost Estates from The Killers guitarist Dave Keuning for about $12 million, according to the New York Times.

On the personal front, Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been embroiled in a protracted legal battle over Château Miraval, the 1,200-acre winery in Correns, France, which the ex-spouses acquired together for about $28.4 million in 2011. Jolie sold her stake to the Stoli Group in 2021 without Pitt’s approval, prompting a countersuit as the pair navigate custody and ownership disputes. The two are approaching the fourth year of their divorce proceedings, with reports indicating ongoing disagreements over custody arrangements and property.

Pitt’s current work on The Adventures of Cliff Booth continues alongside other high-profile projects. Fincher’s film marks a continuation of the collaboration that previously saw Pitt work with the director on multiple projects, and Tarantino remains involved as writer-producer. The cast also features a broad lineup of established character actors, with DiCaprio and Robbie among those who could reprise their roles should negotiations align with the filmmakers’ vision. In another note about Pitt’s career, he recently completed a role as a reclusive ex-Navy SEAL in David Ayer’s action-adventure Heart of the Beast, alongside J. K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. He also executive produced Ronan Day-Lewis’ drama Anemone, which stars Daniel Day-Lewis’s son and Sean Bean, with a limited U.S. release planned in October.

As the film industry processes Redford’s passing, Pitt’s public appearances, project work, and personal life remain under scrutiny. The funeral arrangements for Redford, whose career spanned decades as an actor and director, will be observed as a private family gathering, aligning with the family’s wishes for privacy during a period of mourning. The entertainment industry continues to monitor Pitt’s output, collaborations, and resilience as he balances passionate film work with the lasting impact of his mentor’s influence on his career.
