Bruce Springsteen Says He Doesn’t Care What Trump Thinks, Slams President in Time Interview

Bruce Springsteen says he absolutely couldn’t care less what Donald Trump thinks about him, calling the former president 'the living personification of what the 25th Amendment and impeachment were for' in a Time magazine profile published Thursday. 'If Congress had any guts, he’d be consigned to the trash heap of history,' the 20-time Grammy winner said of Trump. Springsteen added that he would not give these guys a free pass if he’s going to stay true to who he’s tried to be, noting that 'A lot of people bought into his lies… He doesn’t care about the forgotten anybody but himself and the multibillionaires who stood behind him on Inauguration Day.' 'You have to face the fact that a good number of Americans are simply comfortable with his politics of power and dominance,' Springsteen concluded.

The remarks come on the first date of Springsteen’s European tour in May, when he told Time that America 'is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.' He urged democracy lovers to 'raise your voices against the authoritarianism, and let freedom ring.' The piece notes that the rocker, known for his independence from mainstream partisan loyalties, did not offer unabashed praise for the Democratic Party either. He said, 'We’re desperately in need of an effective alternative party, or for the Democratic Party to find someone who can speak to the majority of the nation.' There is a problem with the language they’re using and the way they’re trying to reach people, he added.

Trump fired back on Truth Social, calling Springsteen 'HIGHLY OVERRATED,' 'dumb as a rock' and 'a JERK' whose skin had 'atrophied' and telling him to 'KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT.' The social media exchange underscored a year of high-profile political sparring for Springsteen, who has long used his platform to critique Trump’s policies and rhetoric while continuing to perform worldwide. The Time profile, published Thursday, also highlights Springsteen’s nuanced stance on party politics: while opposing Trump, he cautions that the Democratic Party must articulate a message that resonates with a broad swath of Americans rather than leaning on partisan flame-throwing.

This broader context shows a career-long arc for the Rock Hall of Fame member, whose songs and public statements have often intersected with political debates in the United States. In the Time interview, he emphasized that defending democratic norms requires more than opposition to a single leader; it requires a persuasive case for an alternative path that can attract voters who feel left behind. As Springsteen continues his European dates and prepares more extensive interviews around the world, observers see this stance as consistent with his decades-long approach: using music and commentary to encourage engagement and accountability within American democracy.
