Candace Cameron Bure explains why she left LA after childhood fame: 'Certainly not the same'

Candace Cameron Bure explained why she left Los Angeles for a small Northern California town after childhood fame on Full House. In a Sept. 25, 2025 Instagram post, the Hallmark alum said the city is no longer the same since she grew up there, and especially since 2020, adding that she loves living in a smaller town where people really know your name, not because I’m on TV.

Bure grew up in Panorama City and rose to fame on the sitcom Full House, later reprising DJ Tanner in the Netflix sequel series Fuller House from 2016 to 2020. She had discussed her move away from Los Angeles as far back as the spring, with security concerns playing a major role. “We didn’t feel safe anymore,” she told Fox News Digital. “And that was the biggest reason that we moved. Not everyone in Hollywood lives behind guard gates, and we weren’t behind gates.” She described photographers lingering on their property and approaching her door as part of the stress of life in the public eye, calling it unnerving to live life when you don’t know what’s around the corner. She later clarified that another factor was that her family dynamics had changed and her children no longer lived in the city.

“Mama will go where they go!” she said on Instagram in 2024, underscoring that life changes as children grow. In July, during an episode of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, she spoke candidly about a rough season in their marriage during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that their kids helped rescue the situation by encouraging maturity and open conversation. “There was a lot more to it, but it’s a whole different scenario when your kids sit you down to have a talk and go, ‘Are you being as mature as you can be?’”

The move aligns with her broader professional shift as a Great American Media executive, while she continues to balance acting projects with family life. The shift has drawn attention amid broader discussions about safety and public life for celebrities outside major markets. She has used social platforms to discuss resilience and the importance of family support in navigating fame.

The reporting on Bure’s move in recent weeks notes that the actress remains active as a media executive with Great American Media, highlighting how many stars in her position balance public life with private considerations. The coverage of her move was part of a broader media conversation about the pressures of fame and the safety concerns that can accompany it.

The two-decade arc—from Full House to Fuller House to family life in Northern California—underscore how a childhood career can influence where celebrities choose to live and how to raise their families. As Bure explained on social media, the decision was not based solely on geography but on a combination of security, family needs and a desire for a community where people really know your name. Her story reflects a broader pattern of public figures reassessing their living environments in the wake of changing city dynamics since 2020.
