Carnie Wilson hospitalized after ulcer found during lap-band removal
Hold On singer Carnie Wilson, 57, is on the mend after doctors discovered an ulcer during a lap-band removal, as she copes with health stress this year.

Carnie Wilson, 57, was hospitalized after complications from a lap-band removal that took place on Sept. 15, her family said this week. The Hold On singer revealed in an Instagram post that doctors discovered an ulcer during the procedure and that the episode was intense, with her blood pressure spiking and her legs swelling.
Wilson, who has been open about her weight‑loss journey, previously underwent a gastric bypass in 1999 that reduced her weight from about 300 pounds to 150, and she later had lap‑band surgery in 2012. The lap‑band removal was intended to address issues related to the device, but the operation uncovered an ulcer that doctors said needed timely treatment.
Fans were told Wilson is out of the hospital and on the mend after a second visit this month. In an Instagram video, she said, I am finally over this hump while recovering from my lap band surgery, and she added that a new medicine helped. She also noted the stress of personal loss this year, including the death of her father, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, on June 11, 2025.
Wilson expressed gratitude to her doctors and to fans who prayed for her, describing the setback as a very scary turn during the surgery and saying she appreciated the support.
Wilson Phillips, the pop duo she formed with her sister Wendy and friend Chynna Phillips, has long discussed health and weight challenges publicly. In years past she has spoken about bariatric surgery and implants; in April 2024 she posted about losing 40 pounds by altering her diet, saying the changes made her feel "totally changed" and that she aimed to exercise more to keep momentum. During a later appearance on CBS' The Talk she discussed health decisions and the feelings that come with addressing medical issues, including implants that ruptured in earlier years.
