City of Dreams Mediterranean offers sunshine guarantee with a free night for cloudy days

A five-star hotel in Cyprus is offering a sunshine guarantee and a free stay if holidaymakers get rained on. The City of Dreams Mediterranean, a resort in Limassol, unveiled the policy as part of a new marketing push aimed at assuring guests of favorable weather during their visit.

Cyprus is promoted as a year-round sun destination, with tourism pitches noting roughly 300 to 340 sunny days per year. Even in late autumn, when many travelers bundle up at home, the island can remain warm. On the hotel’s site, the pitch reads: 'With almost 340 days of sunshine, City of Dreams Mediterranean invites you to enjoy the perfect weather for your vacation, with our promise for the best weather possible. Warm weather and clear sunny skies are present almost all year round on the island.'

Holidaymakers who miss out on the sun can earn a free night on their next visit. The hotel adds, 'To add even more value to your stay, we’re offering one complimentary night on your next visit for each day the sun doesn’t shine during your current stay.' The property defines sunshine through a precise metric and plans to publish daily results on a weekly weather calendar. Sunshine is defined as a day with at least 70% direct sunlight between 9:00 and 17:00, and proprietary data will be used to measure each day’s sunshine.

The hotel says it will update sunshine levels on a weather calendar each week, with guests able to submit a claim via a form to receive a free night. Grant Johnson, Senior Vice President and Property General Manager, told the Mirror that the Sunshine Guarantee is designed to offer guests confidence when booking and to reward them if the weather does not cooperate. 'With the Sunshine Guarantee, they know they’ll enjoy the famous weather here in Cyprus and if not, they’ll be rewarded,' he said. The policy emphasizes value alongside the resort’s broader offering.

The City of Dreams Mediterranean touts 500 rooms and a range of entertainment options, including a family adventure park and an outdoor amphitheatre. Guests can also choose from multiple dining venues and a casino, with the resort highlighting an excursion program designed to help visitors explore Limassol and the wider island.

The initiative was reported by the Daily Mail on September 23, 2025, and reflects how some luxury properties in popular sun destinations are seeking novel ways to differentiate themselves amid a competitive market. The reporting notes the hotel’s explicit measurement approach and its weekly weather calendar as part of the program, which is being pitched as a way to give travelers complete confidence in their Cypriot holiday plans.
