Dakota Johnson drew attention on Thursday at the Zurich Film Festival, arriving in an indigo blue sheer lace dress and opting to go bra-free for the red carpet. The 35-year-old actress, known for her work in the 'Fifty Shades' franchise, stepped onto the Zurich stage later in the evening to accept the Golden Eye award for career achievement.

Her gown combined a sheer lace mock turtleneck bodice with a drop waist, then fell into a voluminous ballgown-style tulle skirt. Johnson accessorized with two large jeweled statement rings, and her brunette locks cascaded in soft waves while she wore a neutral makeup palette for the outing.

Johnson’s Zurich moment follows another notable sheer lace moment earlier this month at a Kering Foundation dinner in New York, where she appeared in a completely sheer black lace dress. Reports noted that she wore black undergarments to complement the look, finishing with a cherry-red manicure and lip and an updo. The star has also been cited for her 2024 appearances in transparent designs, including a crystal-embellished mesh Gucci ensemble for the Madame Web premiere in February and another fully sheer lace dress at a separate event.

"Fashion has actually kind of always been a personal thing for me," Johnson told Vogue during a Cannes Film Festival interview in May, recounting memories of trying on her mother's premiere gowns as a child. For the red carpet, she has said the guiding rule is simple: she must feel good in the dress.

Johnson is the daughter of actress Melanie Griffith and actor Don Johnson, and the Golden Eye Award at Zurich recognizes career achievement. The festival noted her as a recipient and she later appeared on stage to receive the honor.

Johnson’s approach to red-carpet fashion has been celebrated for blending transparency with intricate tailoring, often pushing boundaries while maintaining a sense of personal comfort. In a year that has seen several high-profile sheer-dress moments, the Zurich appearance underscored her continued influence in fashion-forward red-carpet discourse.

The actress has repeatedly spoken about fashion as a form of self-expression, noting that the most important factor in choosing a carpet dress is how it makes her feel. Her remarks to Vogue, paired with the Zurich moment, reinforce the idea that Johnson approaches red carpets as a space to balance audacious design with personal ease.
