Dick Van Dyke, 99, flexes his muscles at the gym with unlikely celebrity pal
Centenarian icon's fitness routine and Hollywood friendships endure as he nears 100

Dick Van Dyke, 99, was spotted at a Malibu gym on Friday, where he crossed paths with the unlikely celebrity pal Rick Springfield. The Grammy-winning singer posted an Instagram photo of the pair flexing their arm muscles and said he happened to be filming an episode of Men's Health when he ran into Van Dyke. Springfield praised the actor, noting that Van Dyke has lived in Malibu for about 30 years and is an awesome human being.
Van Dyke has long credited his fitness for his longevity. In January, during the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, he said he exercises three days a week and plans to throw a big party when he turns 100 later this year. He told host Ted Danson that he attributes his age to always exercising, and Danson recalled seeing Van Dyke at a Malibu gym and watching him dance between machines as he moved from one weight station to the next.
Van Dyke, who will turn 100 on December 13, has publicly reflected on the losses that come with age. His wife, Arlene Silver, has said he has outlived many friends, calling it the curse of living to almost 100. The actor has built a career spanning Mary Poppins and The Dick Van Dyke Show, and he won an Emmy at 98 for the 2023 birthday special Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic, tying Norman Lear for the oldest Emmy winner. He has joked about still looking for work, a theme he repeated last year at the Creative Arts Emmys.
