Dick Van Dyke, the 99-year-old Hollywood icon, was photographed at a Malibu gym mid-workout, sharing the moment with an unlikely celebrity pal. Grammy-winning singer Rick Springfield posted an Instagram photo of the two men flexing their arm muscles as they trained in the same facility.

Springfield described the moment in a caption tying the encounter to a shoot for Men’s Health. He wrote that he was filming an episode of the magazine’s program and, to his surprise, found Vin Dyke working out on every machine. “Filming an episode of Men’s Health and I went to the gym and who should be there but 99 year-old Dick Van Dyke,” Springfield wrote. He added that Van Dyke stood up from a chest press, delivered a little dance step, and left him impressed. The two were dressed in gym-appropriate attire, with Van Dyke sporting a white shirt with sleeves rolled up and dark athletic pants, and Springfield wearing a short-sleeved top and black pants.

The moment comes as Van Dyke has recently drawn attention for his health after reportedly dropping out of an event at the last minute earlier this year. He lives in Malibu, a longtime home base that has seen him remain active well into his late 90s. Springfield, who spoke highly of the actor, said, “Dick has lived in Malibu for about 30 years and is an awesome human being.” The singer added that he had thought he was doing well for his own age—at 76—until Van Dyke rose from the chest press and danced his way to the next station. The image captures a playful, upbeat sidebar to a life built on performance and energy.

Van Dyke has long attributed his stamina to a consistent routine. In January, he discussed his fitness on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, noting that he has stayed active throughout his life. “When you think… I go back to 1925, I’m almost 100. This is insane. I’m going to have a big party,” he joked, adding that he exercises three days a week and continues to train with the same discipline. Podcast host Ted Danson recalled seeing Van Dyke at a Malibu gym and observed the actor’s unusual cadence between machines, describing how Van Dyke would move from one weight station to the next as if performing a circuit dance. Danson’s reflections underscored the public fascination with Van Dyke’s enduring energy and humor.

Van Dyke’s career spans more than seven decades, with iconic roles in films like Mary Poppins (1964) and the classic television series The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–1966). He is set to celebrate his 100th birthday on December 13, a milestone that has highlighted discussions about longevity in performance. In September, he also joked about still “looking for work” when accepting an Emmy, tying his long tenure to a recent win for his 2023 birthday special, Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic. He has repeatedly said that performing remains a source of joy and energy, a sentiment that seems to echo in the gym snapshots now circulating online.

Family life and personal history have also shaped his perspective on aging. Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene Silver, whom he married in 2012, has spoken publicly about the emotional toll of outliving many friends. In discussions about the “curse of living to almost 100,” Arlene has emphasized that Van Dyke’s positivity helps him navigate loss, while he himself has described how audience energy provides a continual boost. The couple’s partnership has been a consistent thread through a life marked by resilience, humor, and a steadfast commitment to performance.

As Van Dyke approaches his centennial, observers note that his public appearances—whether at film premieres, television events, or casual gym sessions—continue to draw attention not for the novelty of age but for a sustained level of athleticism and a decades-spanning career. The Malibu workout snapshot with Springfield adds a contemporary footprint to a legacy built on optimism, laughter, and a willingness to push through the ordinary to arrive at moments that feel, in the words of Springfield, “amazing.” Whether training three days a week or sharing a lighthearted moment with a fellow star, Van Dyke’s example remains a focal point for fans who cherish the enduring vitality of classic Hollywood figures.
