Dwight Schrute Gets His Own MTG Secret Lair Set as The Office Crosses Into Magic

Magic: The Gathering is expanding its pop culture footprint with a new Secret Lair drop built around Dwight Schrute from The Office. Wizards of the Coast said Dwight’s Destiny will feature six Dwight Schrute cards, each a re-skin of an existing MTG card. Among the examples, Baral, Chief of Compliance becomes Dwight, Assistant (to the) King. The reveal came during MagicCon Atlanta and came alongside other crossovers that include Jaws, Iron Maiden, and Furby.

These crossovers, part of Wizards’ Secret Lair line, lean into humor and familiarity as a way to attract broader audiences to MTG. The Dwight set centers on Rainn Wilson’s beet-farming office manager and positions him within a deck as a character that fans can collect and play. The six cards are cosmetic re-skins of existing cards, preserving their mechanics while swapping in Dwight’s persona and catchphrases.

Alongside Dwight’s Destiny, Wizards announced collaborations with Jaws and Iron Maiden, and a Furby-themed drop. The Jaws drop features shark imagery; Iron Maiden matches skeleton themes; the Furby Oddboddies homage nods to both MTG and Hasbro’s toy line. The Furby drop has drawn attention for blending a well-known toy brand with a strategy card game, a pairing some observers described as meme-forward and playful.

MagicCon Atlanta has become a showcase for Wizards’ cross-brand strategy, which has included past collaborations with franchises such as Baldur’s Gate and Final Fantasy. The company has said the approach is intended to spark enthusiasm among both longtime MTG players and casual fans who recognize the crossovers. While some players welcome the novelty, others worry about whether these products add lasting value beyond collector appeal.

Pricing, release dates and availability for Dwight’s Destiny and the other Secret Lair drops were not specified in the notes accompanying the announcements. As with prior cross-brand drops, final details are expected to surface from Wizards of the Coast and its partners in the weeks to come. The broader trend illustrates MTG’s ongoing effort to blend mainstream culture with a format rooted in fantasy strategy.
