Elvis called at 2 a.m. while Priscilla Presley was with Robert Kardashian, memoir reveals

Priscilla Presley says Elvis Presley phoned her at 2 a.m. while her then new boyfriend Robert Kardashian lay in bed beside her. The claim appears in an excerpt from her forthcoming memoir Softly, As I Leave You Life After Elvis. The call reportedly caught Presley by surprise, and the late singer was known for carrying firearms.

Priscilla began dating Kardashian in 1975, shortly after divorcing Elvis in 1973 and after a relationship with karate instructor Mike Stone. Kardashian would later marry Kris Jenner in 1978 and they divorced in 1991. Friends describe Kardashian as a devoted attorney who wanted to marry Priscilla and have children.

Those close to Kardashian recalled that Elvis late night calls could be disruptive and common. In the memoir, Priscilla notes Kardashian was a steady presence and that the two formed a strong connection despite the strain created by Elvis.

The memoir recounts how the late night calls sometimes interrupted the couple at times, with Elvis sometimes speaking incoherently on the line. Priscilla reportedly would place the phone on the pillow between them so Robert could hear Elvis over the speaker.

Despite the tension, Priscilla says she and Kardashian remained close. Before his death from cancer in 2003, Kardashian's daughter Kim called Priscilla from the hospital so they could speak one last time. Priscilla writes that Kardashian was the kindest of men and she remembers him with affection.

Softly, As I Leave You Life After Elvis will be released on September 23, 2025.

The memoir also places a light on the broader timeline of Elvis life and Priscilla in the 1970s and 1980s, including Elvis death in 1977 at age 42 and Lisa Marie Presley death in 2023 at age 54.

The excerpt add dimension to the enduring cultural fascination with the intersecting lives of Priscilla Presley and the Kardashian circle, as well as the lasting legacy of both Elvis and his daughter.
