Gordon Ramsay’s Bel Air Mansion Targeted by Prank Swatting for Second Time in Five Months

Gordon Ramsay’s Bel Air mansion was targeted by a swatting hoax Monday morning, the second such incident at the property in five months. A 911 caller alleged that the celebrity chef was high on heroin, had shot his brother and nephew, and was armed with a black revolver, according to law enforcement and reports that followed. The call came in around 8:00 a.m. local time, prompting an armed police response to the residence.

An on-scene officer was dispatched and spoke with Ramsay’s personal assistant, the account provided to outlets including TMZ indicated. The officer ultimately determined there was no active threat and that the incident was a hoax. Ramsay, who was overseas at the time, was unaware of the situation unfolding outside his Bel Air home. The LAPD confirmed the scene had no basis in a real crime and emphasized that it appeared to be a swatting attempt.

The episode echoes a broader pattern in which pranksters file false reports to trigger a large police response to high-profile residences. Swatting has targeted a wide array of celebrities and public figures in the United States, with past incidents involving stars such as Cardi B, Rihanna, Jennifer Aniston, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton, and Chris Brown, among others. Law enforcement officials have described swatting as a dangerous, escalating form of harassment that can put innocent people at risk and waste critical resources. The practice has also affected other well-known figures and venues, illustrating the ongoing threat to public figures who maintain high-profile properties.

The incident at Ramsay’s Bel Air home follows an earlier swatting in April. In that case, officers responded to reports of gunfire outside the property. Neighbors reported that nothing alarming occurred and that no injuries were reported, with investigators later characterizing the episode as swatting. Authorities said they launched a probe into the hoax and continued to assess the broader scope of this criminal activity.

Ramsay, a global television star known for Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, also recently disclosed health news unrelated to the incident. He said he had undergone treatment to remove basal cell carcinoma, a non-melanoma form of skin cancer, and thanked the health-care team for their work. In a social media post accompanying the update, he urged followers to guard against sun exposure, joking that the removal was not a facelift and that sunscreen should be used this weekend. The National Health Service notes that basal cell carcinoma typically presents as a growth or patch on sun-exposed areas and is highly treatable when detected early.

Representatives for Ramsay did not respond to requests for comment, including comments sought by the Daily Mail. Authorities have not suggested any connection between Ramsay’s health update and the residence-related swatting incident, which is being treated as a criminal matter involving hoax calls and deliberate misrepresentation of a serious crime.

The LAPD and officials investigating swatting incidents continue to warn the public that such false reports are dangerous and illegal. The department has previously noted that swatting endangers officers and residents and wastes critical resources, while also potentially exposing victims to trauma and risk. As in previous cases, investigators are examining phone records and other digital footprints to identify those responsible for the hoax and to determine whether the latest call originated from the same source as the earlier incident.

For Ramsay, the incident adds another layer to the public narrative around his personal life and security as a global television figure, even as he maintains a busy professional portfolio that includes a string of restaurants worldwide and a prominent presence on U.S. television.
