Graham Norton sells NYC townhouse for $5.3 million on historic Sniffen Court

Graham Norton has sold his New York City townhouse for $5.3 million, closing the chapter on his Murray Hill pied-a-terre. The Irish broadcaster and comedian sold the residence at 6 Sniffen Court, a three-story mews tucked in the gated Sniffen Court Historic District, according to a person familiar with the deal. The sale was finalized this week, though public records have not yet reflected the transfer and the buyer’s identity remains undisclosed. The property was listed in May for $5.59 million and went into contract in less than 50 days, The Post reported.

Built in 1864, the roughly 2,500-square-foot home spans three floors and features 15-foot ceilings, a lilac stone fireplace and a 465-square-foot roof deck Norton once described as his favorite entertaining space. The two-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom residence also includes a library with custom floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Norton bought the property in 2002 from supermodel Claudia Schiffer and undertook a thorough renovation that preserved the home’s 19th-century charm while updating its interiors.

Sniffen Court comprises just 10 converted carriage houses on a cobblestoned block off East 36th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues. The gated mews is a designated historic district added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The enclave has drawn notables such as musician Lenny Kravitz, composer Cole Porter and comedian Irwin Corey, and it remains home to the Amateur Comedy Club, one of the oldest amateur theater groups in the country.

The sale follows a brisk market for rare Manhattan mews properties, with comparable listings along Pomander Walk on the Upper West Side also moving quickly into contract. The listing broker, Chris Kann of Corcoran, declined to comment.

Norton remains a London-based host and entertainer, and the outcome of the sale leaves the new owner undisclosed at this time.
