Greggs has opened its first-ever pub, The Golden Flake Tavern, inside Fenwick Newcastle, signaling the bakery chain’s latest move into experiential retail. The venue will pour two exclusive draught beers developed with Full Circle Brew Co—Pink Jammie Pale Ale and Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager—and will offer a Greggs-inspired cocktail menu alongside a 15-dish pub-food lineup built around the chain’s bakes and sausage rolls.

Diners can choose from a menu of 15 Greggs-inspired traditional pub dishes, including chicken bake Parmo, steak bake with mixed grill, sausage roll and mash, and a Greggs ploughman’s platter. The dessert lineup features yum yum bread & butter pudding and pink jammie trifle, a dish of doughnut pieces set in jelly topped with jam, custard and whipped cream. The traditional Sunday carvery—described by the pub as its piece de resistance—will offer a choice of steak bake, chicken bake or cheese & onion bake as the centerpiece of the roast, with trimmings such as cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings.

The Golden Flake is the latest collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick, following Bistro Greggs in December 2023, which served a multi-course Greggs-inspired menu, and the Greggs Champagne Bar in 2024, which drew thousands of guests over a nine-week run. Hannah Squirrell, Greggs’ customer director, said the collaborations reflect a shared appetite for playful, premium experiences: “Following the reaction and success of our previous collaborations with Fenwick—Bistro by Greggs in 2023 and the Greggs Champagne Bar last year—we’re thrilled to be launching our third landmark venture together. The Golden Flake Tavern brings a fresh twist to the traditional British pub experience and we hope everyone who joined us before, along with many new faces, will come along to enjoy this unique Greggs experience.”

Leo Fenwick, Fenwick’s strategic partnerships director, added that the project celebrates two regional icons and offers a distinctive in-store experience aligned with both brands’ identities: “This latest collaboration celebrates the best of both brands, pairing Greggs’ much-loved classics with our own distinctive approach to creating memorable in-store experiences. As two North East icons, we’re proud to work together again in offering customers something playful, surprising and truly unique in the heart of Newcastle.”

The pub can seat 88 people at full capacity, with space at the bar. Reservations are advised and can be booked online via Fenwick’s website from midday tomorrow, though walk-ins are welcome. The Golden Flake Tavern will remain open until February 15 next year, giving shoppers and diners a window to sample the Greggs-inspired pub concept during autumn and winter.

Opening details indicate the first pint will be poured this Saturday, marking the public start of a venture that blends Greggs’ bakery heritage with a traditional pub setting. The tavern’s offerings—including two exclusive beers created with a local North East brewer and a menu rooted in Greggs’ familiar bakes—signal a broader strategy for the chain to extend its footprint beyond outlets into experiential formats that attract both Greggs enthusiasts and curious new visitors. While the concept is new for Greggs, the company has previously tested hospitality collaborations with Fenwick, signaling a broader appetite for branded dining experiences that fuse quick-service background with more immersive dining value.
