Harris Dickinson reunites with Beatles co-stars at Urchin premiere as he debuts directorial project

Harris Dickinson reunited with his Beatles biopic co-stars Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan at the London premiere of his directorial debut, Urchin, which he wrote and directed. The event marked a high-profile moment for the 29-year-old actor as he moves from acting into filmmaking.

Mescal, 29, and Keoghan, 32, joined Dickinson on the red carpet, highlighting the actor-director’s rising profile. The evening underscored Dickinsons involvement in a broader creative run that includes a forthcoming Beatles biopic in which Mescal would portray Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn would play George Harrison, and Keoghan would portray Ringo Starr, with Dickinson cast as John Lennon. Sam Mendes, the director of the upcoming Beatles project, was among those in attendance.

Earlier in his career, Dickinson recalled a veteran actor who mocked his working-class East London roots. In a 2023 interview with The Times, he declined to name the actor, calling him a wanker. He described a moment during a film set in which the actor, who had a long career in theatre and television, played a game to guess the identity of people in the room and disparaged questions about Dickinsons background, including references to fish and chips and Love Island as markers of social class. The recollection left a lasting impression on him, particularly while he was still early in his career.

Urchin is described by Dickinson as a drama about people who fall between the cracks and the ways in which the system fails individuals. The film represents his first feature-length project as writer and director, marking a pivotal step in his creative career. The premiere in London also served to spotlight the actor’s expanding ambitions beyond acting into storytelling and direction.

The premiere drew other notable attendees, including Frank Dillane, who posed with Dickinson on the red carpet. Fashion notes from the event highlighted Barry Keoghan in casual streetwear, while Dickinson and Mescal also presented a coordinated, understated style. Other guests included Karyna Khymchuk in a leggy white and blue mini dress, Whitney Love in a sheer lace black skirt paired with a blazer, and Anna Rhodes in a red off-the-shoulder top and trousers, all part of a fashionable cross-section of attendees at the screening.

The Beatles biopic has no confirmed release date, though reports indicate the first installment is expected around 2028. The film’s broader ensemble and the timing of Urchin’s release together place Dickinson at a notable nexus of acting and directing as he continues to build connections to a major upcoming cinematic undertaking centered on the Fab Four.
