Influencer Danielle Bernstein slammed for sending guests a curated dress list for engagement party

Danielle Bernstein, the influencer behind the fashion label and blog WeWoreWhat, is facing sharp backlash after she revealed she sent her engagement party guests a curated list of dresses to buy in order to stay on theme. The confession arrived in a now viral TikTok video in which Bernstein described assembling shoppable links she felt were perfect for the event's look and dress code and instructing guests to pick from the list and purchase what appealed to them.

Bernstein, who announced her engagement to Cooper Weisman in June, said the approach was intended to make shopping easier for attendees. She described the plan as a way to avoid 'matching moments' and said she would remove items from the list as guests bought them. The video has since racked up more than 130,000 views, prompting a flood of comments from viewers who labeled the tactic as controlling or odd.

Many commenters pushed back, calling the move insane or weird and questioning why a celebration would require such direct micromanagement of what others wear. Some asked whether wedding culture has gone too far while others questioned whether someone could wear something they already owned rather than buying a new outfit for a one-time event.

Bernstein founded WeWoreWhat in 2011, starting as a personal style blog and later releasing her own clothing line. She rose to prominence and earned a spot on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list in 2017. But her career has also been marred by criticism that she copied designs from other brands. In May 2018 Diet Prada highlighted similarities between Bernstein's Lulu DK jewelry collaboration and pieces from Foundrae, Retrouvaí, Bondeye Jewelry and Tiffany & Co. Bernstein defended the line as inspired by her late grandfather and later removed several items from circulation.

The episode adds to ongoing debates about influencer influence, wedding culture, and the boundaries between brand promotion and personal life. Bernstein has continued to build her brand online, even as followers scrutinize the line between curated content and authenticity.

The Daily Mail coverage of Bernstein's disclosure underscores how widely discussed the topic has become, with viewers interpreting a private celebration as a stage for spectacle and control.
