Jennifer Rhodes, 78, seen with apparent bruising during rare Los Angeles outing
Charmed alum's LA sighting prompts questions about makeup or other explanations for facial marks

Jennifer Rhodes, a beloved 1990s film and television actress, was photographed in Los Angeles this week with what appeared to be bruising on her face. The 78-year-old, known for her work across theater, film and TV, wore a striped blouse, black trousers and sandals as she stepped from a vehicle and offered a small smile. It was not immediately clear whether the marks were makeup for a forthcoming role or the result of an injury, and representatives for Rhodes did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Mail.
Rhodes is best known for portraying Penny 'Grams' Halliwell on Charmed, a fantasy drama that aired in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She appeared in 14 episodes from 1999 to 2006, alongside Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan. During its run, the series earned nominations and recognition, including Teen Choice Award nods for Television - Choice Drama and Saturn Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Network Television Series.
Rhodes' career began on stage in Illinois and New York after college. Her first screen credit came in the Western The High Chaparral in 1971. She had an uncredited role as a psych ward nurse in the 1978 horror Halloween. Throughout the 1980s she appeared in a variety of TV shows, including General Hospital and Little House on the Prairie. In 1988 she played Winona Ryder's mother in Heathers, alongside Christian Slater and the late Shannen Doherty.
In the 1990s and 2000s Rhodes continued to appear in a range of television series, including Full House, Party of Five, ER, Wings, Murphy Brown, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Friends and Ally McBeal. In addition to Charmed, she had guest roles on Gilmore Girls, Cold Case, Boston Public, The Young and the Restless and The Mentalist. She appeared on The Suite Life on Deck in 2009 as Mrs. McCracken and had later small roles in Grace and Frankie in 2019 and NCIS in 2022.
Her forthcoming project, Henry, is listed as in post-production, with Rhodes cast as Mary Murphy. The legal drama centers on a teenage boy who befriends a dairy calf named Henry and becomes entangled in a high-stakes trial about animal rights. The project also stars Conor Kowalski, Tammy Blanchard, Richard Portnow, Carson Rowland and others.
