John Legend reflects on highs and lows of Chrissy Teigen marriage as they celebrate 12th anniversary

John Legend spoke about the highs and lows of his marriage to Chrissy Teigen during remarks at the Black Music Action Coalition Gala, just weeks after the couple celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary. The EGOT winner told People magazine that they have grown up together and endured both joy and hardship, and that becoming parents has shifted their priorities. He said that facing tragedy and other challenges together has helped cement the bond they share.

The couple are parents to Luna Simone, nine; Miles Theodore, seven; Esti Maxine, two; and Wren Alexander, two. They endured a life-threatening placental abruption during Teigen's pregnancy in September 2020 at about 20 weeks, which resulted in the loss of their son Jack.

Legend and Teigen were married on Sept. 14, 2013, in Lake Como at Villa Pizzo, a famed Northern Italian venue. Stevie Wonder performed, and Legend sang on the couple's big day. Teigen wore three Vera Wang gowns. The pair renewed their vows in Lake Como in 2023.

Teigen has spoken about how she first connected with Legend in 2006, sharing that they met during the filming of a video and spent about 12 hours together. Last year she publicly celebrated their long life together, posting that Legend is her favorite person on the planet and noting they had 18 years together and 11 as a married couple, along with four children, four dogs, two hairless cats and a bearded dragon.

Legend has previously credited the song All of Me, released in 2013, as being about Teigen. In a Spotify interview, he said the ballad expressed his feelings as they prepared to commit to a lifetime together and that he hopes the song resonates with listeners.
