Kim Kardashian discusses new confidence post-divorce in French Vogue interview
Skims founder credits personal growth and Demna for a renewed outlook, with a subtle nod to her split from Kanye West.

Kim Kardashian says her confidence has become exhilarating since turning 40, sharing the sentiment in a French Vogue cover story published Friday. The Skims founder, 44, described how turning 40 in October 2020 preceded her divorce from Kanye West. Kris Jenner had told her that the coming years would be the best of her life, a prediction Kardashian said she has only recently embraced. "Today, I know exactly what I want. It’s exhilarating," Kardashian told French Vogue in the interview. "Only over the past three or four years have I gained this confidence. Before, I constantly needed to check with someone before making a decision." She added that she could hardly imagine relying so much on others’ opinions.
She credited part of her newfound confidence to Balenciaga’s former artistic director, Demna. "I think it was with Demna that things really changed. He doesn’t care what people think, so I learned to do the same." Kardashian said her mindset began to shift during the years she worked with Demna at Balenciaga, a collaboration she described as pivotal in her evolution as a designer and businessperson.
Her remarks also touched on the absence of Kanye West in the conversation; Kardashian did not reference her ex-husband by name in the wide-ranging interview.
In reflecting on her past approach to style during her marriage, Kardashian has publicly discussed how West influenced her wardrobe. In a 2012 confessional on the family’s show, she recalled West’s critique of her fashion sense. She later described a moment when he discarded 250 pairs of her shoes, noting that their arrangement had been "trade-off"—if she cleared out her clothes, he would fill the closet.
The former couple, who share four children, filed for divorce in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage and settled the split in November 2022. West later married Bianca Censori, with the ceremony drawing attention for Censori’s revealing ensembles and fashion statements.
Kardashian’s French Vogue interview comes as she continues to chart a path separate from her ex-husband’s public life, emphasizing personal autonomy and professional pursuits. The ongoing evolution of her brand and image remains a focal point for fans and fashion observers alike.
