Mariah Carey deflects Nick Cannon co-parenting question on CBS Mornings, promotes new album
Carey avoids discussing her relationship with Cannon while addressing family losses and co-parenting specifics during a pretaped CBS Mornings interview

Mariah Carey dodged a question about how she and Nick Cannon co-parent their twins during a pretaped segment of CBS Mornings with Gayle King on Sept. 24, 2025. The singer, 56, declined to discuss their current relationship, saying, "I kind of feel like it's best if I don't talk about him, because he can just be in his own world," and "No offense to him."
Carey, who is promoting her upcoming album Here For It All, said the twins, Moroccan and Monroe, are her priority and that she aims to keep discussions about co-parenting fair and private.
In July, Carey spoke to Harper's Bazaar about their co-parenting dynamic, describing that the children spend time with Cannon and with Carey and that she tries to be fair about the situation because it can be tough to grow up with divorced parents, adding, "They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time."
During the CBS Mornings appearance, Carey also opened up about the deaths of her mother, Patricia, and her estranged sister, Alison, who both died on Aug. 24, 2024. "I don’t know how I processed it; I just know that it was extremely difficult for me to navigate, and it was tough because I have always had an interesting relationship with my mother," she told King. "It hasn’t been easy, but towards the end, I was with her the whole time. And so, I feel better about that." Regarding Alison, she said, "And my sister, I hadn’t seen in years, and I feel really bad about that as well, but that’s because I tend to have a guilt complex about everything, but it’s tough. My sister had an extremely hard life." Carey later noted that she and her family announced the losses in an emotional statement a few days after their deaths.
Carey has kept many aspects of her personal life private but has publicly discussed a cooperative co-parenting relationship with Cannon. Cannon, 44, has 12 children with six women, including Brittany Bell, Abby De La Rosa, Bre Tiesi, LaNisha Cole, and Alyssa Scott. The two, who married in 2008 and welcomed Moroccan and Monroe three years later, separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016.
