Matthew McConaughey urges couples to ditch the king-size bed in forthcoming Poems & Prayers

Matthew McConaughey is weighing in on bedroom habits in his forthcoming book, Poems & Prayers. In an excerpt published ahead of the book’s release, the Oscar-winning actor urges readers to rethink the king-size bed, calling it the best thing you can do for your marriage. He writes, "One way to surely get ahead is to get rid of that king-size mattress, and sleep in a queen-size bed."

He recalled a visit to a friend's house where a double king-size bed accommodated three children, the wife on her side and the husband on his, and everyone slept fine—until the kids grew bigger. "The wife’s on one side with her side table, and the husband’s on the other side and it’s great when you got all three kids, but all of a sudden the kids get too big," he said in an interview with Fox News Digital, published over the weekend. "Then you go to bed at night, like you want to snuggle up and …‘Well, we’ve got to cover up you... Come about 12 feet and I’ll come 12 feet,’" he said. "Suddenly, this king-size bed is not good for the marriage... Get rid of that son of a bitch," he added.

McConaughey noted that he and wife Camila Alves McConaughey, married for 13 years, share a family with three children: Levi, 17; Vida, 15; and Livingston, 12. The couple's approach to marriage has drawn public interest, with Camila offering her own relationship reflections in earlier interviews.

Camila Alves McConaughey told Hollywood Life in 2021 that "Relationships are work, but I choose love," adding that there is no simple, short answer to relationship questions and that it’s work to navigate ups and downs. She posed a simple question for those working on their relationship: "what do you choose?" Her stance underscores a common thread in their public discussions about partnership.

Fox News Digital's coverage of McConaughey’s remarks ties into a broader media circuit around his forthcoming poetry-and-prayer collection. The HuffPost report notes the remarks were shared in the context of promoting his new book and his ongoing public dialogue about personal growth and marriage.

Media coverage of the remarks arrives as the actor promotes Poems & Prayers, a collection blending verse and reflections on faith, family, and growth. The interview with Fox News Digital and the HuffPost report illustrate how entertainment figures weigh everyday choices—like sleep—within broader conversations about marriage and personal development.
