Miley Cyrus weighs eloping with Maxx Morando as she refrains from planning another wedding
Insiders say Cyrus favors privacy and a low-key celebration over a traditional ceremony

Miley Cyrus is reportedly considering eloping with fiancé Maxx Morando, a claim circulated by Us Weekly as the couple moves into a new engagement chapter. The 33-year-old singer and Morando, 27, became engaged earlier this month after she showed off a ring valued at about $150,000 at the Avatar: Fire And Ash premiere in Hollywood on December 1. The pair have since spent time with Cyrus’s mother, Tish, during the holiday season in Malibu.
People close to Cyrus told Us Weekly that she is reluctant to stage another wedding following her 2019 split from Liam Hemsworth and the divorce finalized in 2020. The insider said Cyrus favors a private, low-key celebration rather than a traditional ceremony and wants to focus on the couple’s love rather than the social production often associated with weddings. The plan, the insider added, is to celebrate in a way that feels meaningful to them while keeping things intimate.
Sources also told Us Weekly that Cyrus and Morando have been on cloud nine since getting engaged and are taking their time as they navigate this new chapter. They have been seen spending time with Cyrus’s family in Malibu during the holidays, signaling family support for the relationship.
The Daily Mail noted that friends reportedly see a different dynamic with Morando compared to Cyrus’s past partners, and both families have warmed to him. Morando's father publicly celebrated the engagement with photos on social media. The engagement marks Cyrus's first since she finalized her divorce from Hemsworth in January 2020, after nearly a decade of on-and-off dating and an initial marriage in 2018.
Earlier this year Cyrus discussed the engagement on late-night television, joking about a phobia of paper that she says made her accept Morando's proposal. She quipped that she hates paper and even joked about making Morando open deliveries outside the house to avoid paper contact. While lighthearted, the remarks underscored her desire for a quieter life that remains out of the public eye.
While representatives for Cyrus did not respond to requests for comment, the Daily Mail reported that insiders described the relationship as different from her past romances and that the family view is positive. The engagement and its private nature coincide with Cyrus's recent statements about enjoying a more private chapter of her life.
