Nathalie Kelley targets Kim Kardashian's NikeSkims collab, calling it 'fossil fuel fashion' ahead of launch

Australian actress Nathalie Kelley, 40, best known for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, has publicly slammed Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand ahead of its NikeSkims collaboration. Kelley reposted an EcoAge article criticizing NikeSkims for its use of synthetic materials such as nylon and spandex, tagging the post with a poop emoji to emphasize her point. The NikeSkims collection is slated to launch on September 26 and will feature body-sculpting pieces designed for sports performance, including crop tops and leggings.

The EcoAge piece notes that NikeSkims will launch with seven collections, largely composed of synthetic fabrics like nylon and polyester. It argues the venture represents “fossil fuel fashion” and contends that producing more synthetic activewear comes at the expense of people and the planet. Kardashian’s SKIMS has faced prior scrutiny from advocacy groups; Remake’s 2024 accountability report assigned SKIMS a zero score across categories including transparency, wages and wellbeing of employees, environmental impact and sustainability goals, placing the brand at the bottom—tied with Temu, a retailer accused of labor violations and unsafe products. SKIMS was founded in 2019 and is valued at roughly $4 billion.

Kelley has long positioned herself as an environmental advocate, famously criticizing Burning Man for encouraging attendees to burn fuel and urging festival-goers to move away from feathered accessories deemed harmful to wildlife in the Amazon. Her public stance on the NikeSkims collaboration reflects ongoing tensions in the celebrity-driven conversation about sustainability in fashion. The article accompanying Kelley’s post includes an image of Serena Williams modeling the NikeSkims range, illustrating the line’s high-profile footprint.
