Patsy and Eddie reunite on Burberry front row at London Fashion Week

Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley reunited for a front-row moment Monday at Burberry's London Fashion Week show in Kensington Gardens, closing the week with a spectacle of Brit nostalgia. The Absolutely Fabulous stars sat among fashion’s A-listers, including Elton John and Naomi Campbell, choosing classic Burberry silhouettes—trench coats and signature checks—over the flamboyant flair their characters Patsy Stone and Edina Monsoon once flaunted on screen.

They were seated beside model Twiggy, who guest-starred as herself in two Absolutely Fabulous episodes. Twiggy arrived in a chic black suit and tie and appeared to enjoy the banter with her longtime pals, posing for photos inside the packed tent before the trio shared a moment of laughter on the front row. The public reunion underscored a night of Brit nostalgia that drew attention from fashion and entertainment circles alike.

This marks the pair’s first high-profile appearance together in almost a decade. Saunders has repeatedly said she would not revive Patsy and Eddie following the 2016 movie, though the show’s legacy continues to influence fashion and comedy dialogue. Last year, Gold aired Absolutely Fabulous: Inside Out, a two-hour tribute that brought Saunders and Lumley back together to discuss the show’s behind-the-scenes history and its impact.

Ab Fab grew out of a French & Saunders sketch in which Saunders played an Eddie-like character named Adrianna, with the late-night premise expanding into a full series after Dawn French’s commitments shifted. Ruby Wax helped hone the scripts in development and suggested Joanna Lumley for the Patsy role. “I saw her in a play, went backstage and said, ‘You should be in a comedy,’” Wax has recalled. Joanna, who had been skeptical during the pilot’s early days, soon found herself paired with Saunders to bring Patsy and Eddie to life. The pilot’s reception—and Saunders’ evolving collaboration with Lumley—ultimately defined a show that would become a cultural touchstone.

Absolutely Fabulous ran for five seasons between 1992 and 2003 and produced one film, cementing its place in television comedy history as a benchmark for female-led satirical humor. Despite the occasional public doubt about revivals, the show’s influence persists, with the Burberry moment serving as a reminder that Patsy and Eddie’s wit continues to resonate on screens and in fashion storytelling alike.
