Rebecca Adlington reveals pregnancy with third child after miscarriages
The BBC sports presenter says she is 'cautiously overjoyed' and thanks the NHS Rainbow Team as she opens up about two prior miscarriages

Rebecca Adlington is pregnant with her third child, the BBC sports presenter announced on Instagram on Tuesday, describing the news as a 'small miracle' after 19 months of trying. In a black-and-white photo of a baby scan, she and husband Andy Parsons said they are 'cautiously overjoyed' and thanked the NHS Rainbow Team for the care they have received.
She said the pregnancy has been an emotional and physical rollercoaster, and that they questioned whether to share the news but chose to be open about their journey to support others facing similar struggles. "We want to share that we are expecting a child. It has been an emotional and physical rollercoaster navigating these past 19 months of trying, but this pregnancy has been a small miracle," she wrote on the post. "We are taking each day as it comes and are incredibly grateful for the care we are receiving from the NHS (Rainbow Team) and are feeling overwhelmingly supported by them. While we are cautiously overjoyed, we carry awareness of the quiet struggles many face, and we send love to those hearts too. We know so many people are still waiting for this kind of news."
The former competitive swimmer, 36, and Parsons already share son Albie, two, and daughter Summer, eight, from Adlington’s previous marriage to ex-husband Harry Needs. The couple confirmed they are adding to their family while acknowledging the reality of their past losses.
Adlington has been candid about miscarriages that spanned her first pregnancy and a later loss. Her first miscarriage occurred at about 12 weeks in 2022 and was diagnosed as a molar pregnancy, which led to emergency surgery. The following year she faced a second miscarriage at her 20-week scan and subsequently described how difficult she found looking at herself after the birth. Speaking to ITV on This Morning, she and Parsons discussed two heartbreaking miscarriages in a bid to raise awareness and help others who have suffered similar losses. "I was angry at my body, my body let me down, it didn't give me that: 'This is going wrong! Go get help!'" she said during the interview.
In recent weeks, Adlington has reiterated the importance of seeking support and sharing experiences to support others navigating reproductive challenges. The couple have emphasized taking each day as it comes and expressing gratitude for the medical care they have received throughout their journey.
The pregnancy news adds to a broader public conversation about reproductive health and the emotional toll of miscarriage, particularly as public figures share personal milestones to raise awareness and offer comfort to others who have endured loss. As this story develops, Culture & Entertainment coverage continues to track how Adlington balances fame, family, and advocacy while preparing for the arrival of a new family member.
