Spencer Matthews to front new Channel 4 documentary Am I a Psychopath
Former Made in Chelsea star volunteers for a one-off program to test whether he could be diagnosed as a psychopath

Channel 4 is set to air a one-off documentary featuring Spencer Matthews to determine whether the former Made in Chelsea star could be diagnosed as a psychopath. In Spencer Matthews: Am I a Psychopath, the 37-year-old father of three volunteers for an intense psychological experiment to put his personality to the test after friends and family suggested he may show traits associated with psychopathy.
A TV insider described the project as a unique experiment unlike anything seen on television, noting that Matthews has long been drawn to the subject and is prepared to show vulnerability to explore whether he could be diagnosed as a psychopath. The documentary, produced by Mettlemouse for Channel 4, is described as nothing like previous shows and aims to probe the science behind the label while addressing whether there could be a notion of a "good psychopath."
Matthews is no stranger to emotionally charged projects. In 2023 he fronted Finding Michael for Disney+, chronicling his mission to recover the body of his brother Michael Matthews, who disappeared on Mount Everest in 1999. He is also gearing up to film Seven in Seven, an endurance challenge that would see him complete seven Ironman triathlons on seven continents. Last year he earned a Guinness World Record after running 30 marathons in 30 consecutive days across the Jordanian desert, the most marathon distances ever completed on sand in a single month.
Spencer Matthews: Am I a Psychopath, described in initial materials as a personal and scientific journey, seeks to explore whether someone could be simultaneously empathetic and psychopathic under certain circumstances and whether there might exist a form of a "good" psychopath. Matthews has said the project reflects a long-standing interest in psychopathy, noting that he has sometimes suspected he lacks empathy and wants to understand the condition more fully.
The reality figure and presenter is known for his long-running marriage to Vogue Williams, with whom he shares three children: Theodore, Gigi, and Otto. The couple began dating after meeting on reality TV in 2017, and they married in 2018. Williams has publicly discussed their early dynamic, including moments when she privately wondered whether Matthews exhibited sociopathic traits.
Matthews has previously spoken candidly about his own fears regarding psychopathy. During his 2017 appearance on All 4’s Celebrity Psych Test, he discussed his concerns about lacking empathy and the possibility that he might be a psychopath—an admission that has fed into his current investigative project. The new documentary builds on that curiosity, combining personal exploration with scientific discussion about how psychopathy is diagnosed and how it manifests in behavior.
The project underscores Matthews’s broader media footprint. He has described himself as fascinated by the spectrum of human behavior and has pursued dramatic, high-profile ventures beyond traditional reality television, including endurance challenges and investigative storytelling. In describing the new program, Channel 4 frames the work as an examination of one person’s potential to meet a controversial clinical label, while also challenging audiences to rethink assumptions about empathy, morality, and danger.
Vogue Williams, who has been candid about their relationship history, has acknowledged that she once thought Matthews could be a sociopath when they first met on The Jump in 2017. The couple’s ongoing collaboration and public conversations about personality and vulnerability have kept their personal story in the public eye while Matthews pursues further explorations of human psychology on screen.
