Taylor Swift granted five-year restraining order against alleged stalker

Taylor Swift has been granted a five-year restraining order against a 45-year-old man accused of stalking the pop star, court documents show. The order, issued after a June temporary restraining order and a July hearing, prohibits Brian Jason Wagner from approaching Swift or her workplaces, home, or vehicle and bans any form of contact, including in person, by mail, or digitally. It also bars him from owning firearms, ammunition, or body armor for five years and requires him to surrender any such items in his possession to authorities.

The judge’s order requires Wagner to stay at least 100 yards away from Swift, effectively closing off opportunities for direct contact or proximity to her daily life. The documents obtained by TMZ and reviewed by Swift’s lawyers indicate the restraining order covers Swift herself, her Los Angeles residence, her place of work, and any other specified locations where she could reasonably be found.

Swift, 35, had requested the protection last spring after alleging that Wagner repeatedly appeared at her home and claimed she had his baby. Court records show he also allegedly changed his driver’s license address to Swift’s house and attempted to divert mail sent to her residence. The court also ordered Wagner to have no contact with Swift across any platform and to surrender any firearms or related equipment in his possession. The five-year term applies unless amended or extended by the court.

Wagner, described in court filings as a Colorado resident, did not attend the latest hearing. He had previously faced a temporary restraining order granted in June following the alleged incidents in May, including visits to Swift’s home and claims about their paternity. The case has become a focal point for Swift’s security team, which has compiled extensive documentation of his communications and movements, including hundreds of emails, text messages, and photos collected over several months.

The Daily Mail has reported that, despite a professional investigation, Wagner remains unaccounted for. Brooke Berg, a licensed private investigator hired by Swift, filed a declaration stating that Wagner had not responded to text messages sent on September 8 and had not been located at multiple last-known addresses in Colorado during June and July. The security team’s declaration and investigative materials, which include communications from 2023 to the present, underscore Swift’s ongoing efforts to document and respond to the alleged stalking.

An insider cited by the Daily Mail said Swift is concerned about the severity of the stalker’s actions and the possibility of further invasions of privacy, noting that Swift has faced stalking attempts from several individuals over the years and has recently faced online attention from extremist groups. The source added that Swift’s team remains hyper-vigilant as her security measures continue to adapt to new threats as they arise.

Swift has been careful to balance her privacy with public appearances, including recent security arrangements at major events. In one high-profile moment this season, she attended the Kansas City Chiefs game behind protective screening to support fiancé Travis Kelce, a precaution described by insiders as a security measure rather than a public spectacle. The same week, Swift’s team faced broader security concerns in the wake of unrelated violence involving political figures and activist figures, prompting an emphasis on protective protocols across Swift’s schedules and venues.

Separately, court filings related to Swift’s broader legal and security matters include a separate incident in which a process server was arrested at Kelce’s home while attempting to serve Swift with deposition papers connected to Justin Baldoni’s defamation cases against Blake Lively. The arrest occurred at Kelce’s residence in Leawood, Kansas, and legal proceedings in that matter have continued independently of the stalking case.

Swift’s restraining order remains in effect for five years, with the option for extension if the court finds continued risk. The order also emphasizes swift reporting of any new contact or attempt to contact Swift by Wagner, including through intermediaries, and reiterates the need for Swift to maintain her security posture amid ongoing concerns about stalkers and aggressive online actors.

As Swift’s team continues to monitor the situation, the singer’s public appearances and private security operations are expected to proceed under heightened protective measures. The court documents, investigators’ notes, and media reporting collectively illustrate the ongoing tension between Swift’s privacy and the realities of high-profile security needs in the cultural and entertainment sphere.
