Tears for Fears co founder Roland Orzabal and his wife Emily have welcomed their first child together, a baby girl, in June. The birth was confirmed by Orzabal’s bandmate Curt Smith in August during an interview with Vulture, with Smith noting that the couple chose to stay home rather than tour this summer to focus on the new baby.

Emily, a photographer who announced the pregnancy in June, shared a photo of herself cradling her baby bump while wearing a white and tan striped midi dress. Fans quickly began congratulating the couple in the comments, with several referencing the newborn by name and offering best wishes.

The couple’s private life has included two previously documented weddings. They secretly eloped atop Aspen Mountain in Colorado in 2020 after having to postpone their planned ceremony because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emily shared on Instagram that the elopement was a deeply meaningful moment for them, and that while they could not have many loved ones present, they planned a larger celebration in the future. In the following year, they held a celebratory wedding with friends and family at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, England.

Roland Orzabal, 64, is one half of Tears for Fears, known for hits such as Everybody Wants to Rule the World and Head over Heels, alongside Curt Smith. He has two sons, Pascal and Raoul, from his previous marriage to Caroline Orzabal, who died in July 2017 at age 54 after suffering from alcohol-related dementia and cirrhosis following a long battle with depression. The personal challenges surrounding this period contributed to the band’s seventh studio album, The Tipping Point.

In late October 2024, Tears for Fears released the song Emily Said, a project that Emily said inspired her to reflect publicly about their connection. She posted to social media that it was a good day for Emilys around the world because the band had released a song about them. The couple have previously described their life together as balancing professional success with private milestones, including their plans to host future celebrations with their closest circle.

Fans have continued to flood social media with congratulations since the news of the birth emerged, underscoring the enduring interest in both the band and the couple’s personal journey through marriage, family, and public life.
