Tom Cruise eyes Cotswolds mega-mansion as locals wary

Tom Cruise could join the Cotswolds' celebrity set after a report that he is eyeing multi-million pound mansions in the affluent region. The Mail on Sunday says the Mission: Impossible star has sent his personal assistant to identify a suitable home in the countryside known for private clubs, billionaires and a string of high-profile residents, including Cruise's long-standing friend, the Beckhams. The actor, 63, is also linked to dating 37-year-old Cuban actress Ana de Armas, whom he met last year while filming in Oxfordshire.

Locals in the area have expressed caution about any influx. One Charlbury resident described the situation as an American invasion and suggested Cruise would be another celebrity who would not integrate with the community. Another local said the stars tend not to engage with residents and prefer upmarket pubs to traditional local venues such as the village's The Bull.

The social scene in the Cotswolds has drawn many global figures. Ellen DeGeneres is reported to have moved there, while Beyoncé and Jay Z are purchasing a barn in the village of Wigginton. The Beckhams already live nearby, in a converted multi-million-pound farmhouse in Great Tew, not far from the Soho Farmhouse private members' club. Cruise has celebrated milestones there in the past; Soho Farmhouse hosted his 60th birthday party in 2022 with guests including Gordon Ramsay and James Corden.

As for real estate and social ties, Cruise has connections to Notting Hill's Core restaurant, where he was guest of honour at Sir David Beckham's 50th birthday dinner. The region is also home to other notable figures, including former prime minister David Cameron, who lives in Chipping Norton, and broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson, who runs his farm-cum-pub, The Farmer's Dog, in Burford.

Cruise's current property portfolio includes a £35 million penthouse in Knightsbridge and multiple mansions in Beverly Hills. He is currently dating Ana de Armas, whom he met last year while filming in Oxfordshire. The couple has spent summers in Spain and were spotted at an Oasis concert in July, though they have kept their relationship largely out of the public eye.

Cruise was approached for comment.
