Tom Holland Hospitalized After Injury on Spider-Man: Brand New Day Set; Filming Paused

Tom Holland was hospitalized after suffering a concussion following a fall during a stunt on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at Leavesden Studios in Watford, England, on Friday. The incident prompted Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures to pause production pending a safety review.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Holland was treated for a mild concussion and that the rest of the crew was not injured. The outlet noted that Holland is taking a break from filming for several days as Sony convenes a meeting on Monday to discuss filming plans. The Daily Mail had earlier reported the incident occurred during a stunt.

The day after the incident, Holland made a rare public appearance with his fiancée and costar Zendaya at Christie’s auction house in London, where they hosted a Posh Pub Quiz fundraiser for The Brothers Trust, the charity he runs with his three brothers. The couple, who became engaged late last year, posed for photos at the event.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day began filming in Glasgow, Scotland, on Aug. 1, marking Holland’s fourth standalone turn as the web-slinger. Destin Daniel Cretton directs the film, which is set to pick up after 2021’s No Way Home and before Avengers: Doomsday. Zendaya is expected to reprise her role as Michelle “MJ” Jones, with Jacob Batalon also returning as Ned Leeds. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Michael Mando’s Scorpion are among others attached to appear. New cast members include Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has described the project as a shift toward a more street-level Spider-Man, with Peter Parker focused on saving the city largely on his own. “There’s a promise at the end of ‘No Way Home’ that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland ‘Spider-Man’ stories, him being a proper Spider-Man,” Feige told Collider. “Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with – for lack of better terms – street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events.”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is slated for release on July 31, 2026.
