Twiggy, 75, shines in black suit at Burberry show as Leigh Lawson credits busy life for 42-year marriage
Actor-poet Leigh Lawson says staying active and collaborating on projects has sustained his 42-year romance with Twiggy, even as the model remains a Fashion Week fixture.

Twiggy, 75, cut a chic figure in a tailored black suit and satin tie as she arrived for Burberry's show in Perks Field during London Fashion Week on Monday. The supermodel paired the blazer with matching trousers and a crisp white shirt, flashing a smile for photographers with sunglasses perched atop her head.
Her husband, actor Leigh Lawson, 82, told the Daily Mail that keeping busy and working on projects together has helped sustain their 42-year marriage. 'I think it's quite important to keep busy, I think that helps in your relationships,' he said. 'We get on really well and we spend almost all of our time together. We've just had a wonderful success with the musical based on Twiggy's life, Close-Up.' Lawson, who has also published a book of autobiographical poetry, Now and Then, added that Twiggy shows no signs of slowing down. 'I can't see her retiring,' he said. 'She's a ball of energy.' He noted that in January she was offered the cover of Vogue twice — Vogue Portugal and Vogue Greece — and that she has just come back from Germany's Next Top Model.
Lawson said Twiggy's drive has kept their relationship dynamic: 'We enjoy each other's company and work on projects together. We've just had a wonderful success with a musical based on Twiggy's life, Close-Up.' He recalled their first meeting in the eighties, introduced by mutual friend actor Robert Powell, noting their instant rapport and how Twiggy arrived at his home two days after they met. 'Two days later Twiggy showed up at my house,' he said with a laugh. 'Who would have thought in the whole of London that she lived around the corner?' The couple's tale stands out for its longevity, built on friendship, humor and a shared passion for the arts.
The two have weathered personal histories as well. Leigh's previous marriage to Mondy ended in divorce in 1976, and Twiggy was widowed in 1983 when husband Michael Witney died of a heart attack. Yet the pair have leaned into their partnership, with Twiggy continuing to command high-profile work into her mid-70s. Lawson reflected on the balance of love and career: 'When you're happy, time goes quickly. It's the glue that holds it together—humour, respect, and a shared sense of purpose.'
Beyond their romance, Twiggy remains a prominent figure in fashion and media. The January period brought multiple Vogue appearances for her, and she recently wrapped a stint on Germany's Next Top Model, underscoring her continued relevance in a rapidly shifting industry. Leigh's poetry and literary projects, including Now and Then, further illustrate the couple's shared inclination toward creative collaboration. As fashion Week continues, Twiggy's presence remains a touchstone for a generation that defined style in the 1960s and still resonates with audiences today.
