Guy Sebastian says two spinal surgeries in one week left him with lingering finger numbness but pain relief

Australian singer Guy Sebastian revealed that he underwent two spinal surgeries in the same week last month to treat nerve pain and is now on the mend, though feeling in his fingers has not yet returned.

Speaking on Sunrise on Friday, the 43-year-old said the ordeal was "hell" and that he couldn't take the pain anymore after suffering nerve pain that shot down his right side. "I had no feeling in my hand. I was dropping my guitar picks. I knew something needed to be done," he told hosts Natalie Barr and Matt "Shirvo" Shirvington. He said he was one of the rare cases who needed a second operation after the first.

He said the pain has subsided since the surgeries but he still cannot feel his thumb, index finger, and middle finger all the way through, even as the relief is real. "The pain is gone. I'm grateful," he added.

Sebastian first disclosed the setback in late August, posting a hospital photo to Instagram that showed him in bed with a catheter in his hand and describing unbearable nerve pain in his spine. In that post, he wrote "They say it comes in threes" as he signaled a difficult year and thanked fans for support.

He told Sunrise that the procedures were intended to restore function and allow him to resume touring next year.

With a tour calendar in mind for early next year, Sebastian emphasized that recovery remains the top priority. "My goal is to get all of this sorted and bounce back hard for tour early next year. I’ll get there and I will get it done but wow, in a fair bit of pain right now," he said.

The episode underscores a challenging year for the singer, who has described highs and significant physical pain in public updates. He said he remained grateful for the chance to have surgery and to continue his career and asked fans for patience as he recovers.
