Melbourne wig theft of cancer patients’ wigs branded 'heartless' by police
Police release CCTV of a woman suspected in stealing four donated wigs intended for children with cancer

Four wigs intended for children undergoing cancer treatment were allegedly stolen in broad daylight in Melbourne, with detectives describing the incident as 'heartless.' Victoria Police said the theft occurred at a Lennox Street store in Richmond, just east of the central business district, about 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Staff had placed the wigs in the reception area because they were due to be taken to a hospital for donation to children with cancer, but a woman allegedly walked in, picked up four wigs, and tucked them into her jacket and bag while workers were out the back.
Police released CCTV images of a woman who they believe may assist with inquiries. The suspect is described as Caucasian with long dark hair with blonde ends and wearing all-black clothing. A man described as Caucasian, wearing a white or grey beanie, black hoodie, black pants and white runners, was seen waiting nearby. The woman left the store and met the man outside, according to investigators, who are appealing for information.
The wigs were destined for a hospital to be given to children with cancer, and staff had set them aside for donation when the theft occurred. Police described the act as 'heartless' and said the investigation remains active. No arrests have been reported, and investigators are reviewing CCTV and speaking with store staff to establish a timeline and confirm exactly how the theft unfolded.
Authorities urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential online report. The case underscores the ongoing challenge for charities and donation programs that provide goods to seriously ill children and the communities that support them.
