Mother-of-four says £2,500 eyelid lift banished 'saggy' hooded eyes
Bradford marketing director underwent a 40-minute upper blepharoplasty while awake, trimming 1.7cm of excess skin and returning home the same day

A 32-year-old mother of four from Bradford says a £2,500 lunchtime operation to lift her upper eyelids has transformed the appearance of her face and banished the permanently tired look she associated with "hooded" eyes.
Sophie Watkins, a marketing agency director, chose an upper blepharoplasty — a procedure that removes excess skin, fat and muscle from the eyelids — after years of feeling that her eyes looked perpetually exhausted. The operation lasted about 40 minutes, was performed under local anaesthetic with the patient awake, and involved an incision in the natural crease of each eyelid and the removal of around 1.7 centimetres of sagging skin before the incisions were stitched.
Watkins said she had long been unhappy with the way her eyelids folded over the eyes and that the condition ran in her family, adding that sleepless nights with young children had made the hooding more pronounced. "I've wanted it done for ages but thought I'd wait until I was a little bit older," she said. "They were saggy. There was loads of excess skin. [Being a mum of four] there's lots of sleepless nights, which does make you more tired. I always found the more tired that I was, the hooding of my eyes became more visible."
Clinic staff stitched the incisions neatly and Watkins travelled home by train the same afternoon. She described the procedure as quick and said the change in her appearance was immediate.
Upper blepharoplasty is commonly performed to address excess tissue that can give the eyelids a drooping or "hooded" appearance. The procedure may be undertaken for aesthetic reasons or, in some cases, to improve vision if excess tissue obstructs the visual field. It can be performed under local or general anaesthesia depending on patient and surgeon preference.
Recovery after the operation varies by individual; temporary bruising, swelling and mild discomfort are commonly reported, and surgeons provide aftercare instructions to manage these effects. Watkins opted for a private clinic and the stated cost for her procedure was £2,500.
She said she was pleased with the results and with how the change has affected her appearance, noting that the eyelid lift has reduced the constant look of tiredness she felt her face conveyed. Medical professionals advising patients on blepharoplasty typically discuss expectations, potential benefits and possible complications during consultation to ensure informed decisions.
