Mountain rescue joins search for missing woman, 62

A mountain rescue team has joined the search for Mavis, a 62-year-old woman who has been missing from Darlington since Tuesday, police said. Mavis was last seen leaving her home in the Haughton area and heading toward the town centre. CCTV footage shows her leaving South Park at about 13:30 BST.

Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team (TWSMRT) said its hill and specialist canoe teams had searched woodlands and rivers across the area for three days in a bid to locate her. Mavis is described as about 6ft tall with long blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a green puffer jacket and burgundy trousers and carrying a black leather handbag. She is known to frequent High Row and the Broken Scar picnic area. Officers would particularly like to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage covering the Skerne Park and West End areas of Darlington around that time. The farming community is asked to check farmland and outbuildings.

Durham Constabulary said the inquiry remains active as the search continues. No confirmed sightings have been reported since Tuesday, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with information that could aid the investigation. The force has asked anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the Skerne Park and West End areas around the time Mavis was last seen to contact them, and to check any relevant farmland or outbuildings for signs she may have sought cover.

Anyone with information should contact Durham Constabulary.
