Teddi Mellencamp Urges Fans to Secure Life Insurance While Battling Stage Four Melanoma

Teddi Mellencamp urged her social media followers on Thursday to obtain life insurance, saying the decision is one she wished she had made earlier as she continues treatment for stage four melanoma.

In an Instagram video posted to her roughly 1.2 million followers, the 44-year-old former reality star opened by saying, "I'm currently living with stage four melanoma." She described feeling "blindsided" by the diagnosis after a prior history of stage one melanoma and said that securing life insurance when she was younger "could have changed my worries, my concerns." Mellencamp added, "There’s no wrong time to get life insurance. Do it now. Do it for your kids. Do it for your family. Do it for your peace of mind."

In the video's caption, Mellencamp reiterated the message, writing that life insurance was the one thing she wished she had secured earlier in her health journey because it would have been less expensive and removed a source of stress. She said she was not seeking sympathy but wanted to prompt action among her followers. Mellencamp also disclosed a partnership with insurance marketplace Policygenius and directed followers to a link in her bio for a free quote.

Mellencamp, the daughter of musician John Mellencamp, has publicly documented her cancer diagnosis and treatment. Earlier this year she underwent emergency surgery to remove four large brain tumors and subsequently began radiation and immunotherapy to treat tumors that doctors said resulted from her 2022 melanoma metastasizing. She has described experiencing migraines for roughly six months before seeking medical attention.

The reality television alum has been open about her personal life during the health crisis. She filed for divorce from estranged husband Edwin Arroyave in November 2024. Mellencamp is the mother of three children: daughters Slate, 12, and Dove, five, and son Cruz, 11.

Mellencamp has used social media to share updates about her recovery and treatment, including recent posts about immunotherapy sessions. In Thursday's message she urged followers to act promptly on life insurance regardless of age or current health status, adding, "The sooner you do this the better. That's why I'm so insistent on you guys getting life insurance as soon as you can."

Her post follows months of public updates that detailed the progression of her illness and the medical interventions she has undergone. Mellencamp's appeal highlights a personal decision she says she would have made earlier and reflects the way some public figures are using their platforms to discuss health-related planning amid serious diagnoses.
