Two-year-old dies after choking incident at private village nursery in Lancashire
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances; a file will be passed to the coroner

A two-year-old boy has died after a choking incident at the private village nursery he attended in Lancashire. Paramedics were called to the nursery in the grounds of Parbold Douglas C of E Academy on Friday after the child became unresponsive and he was rushed to hospital, where medics could not save him.
The nursery — which caters for children aged one to five and is privately run on the academy site near Wigan — has been praised by Ofsted inspectors for providing a nurturing, home-from-home environment.
Locals said the boy collapsed after a choking incident. Lancashire Police said they were called to Lancaster Lane, Parbold, at 2:43 p.m. on September 19 after reports a child had become unresponsive at school. The child was taken to hospital where, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he died. The force added that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected.
The private nursery sits on the academy site and caters to children aged one to five; it has previously been described by Ofsted as providing a nurturing, home-from-home environment. The nursery has been approached for comment, and no further details have been released about the circumstances beyond police statements; the coroner will determine the cause of death.
