Two-year-old dies after choking incident at private village nursery in Parbold

A two-year-old boy has died after a choking incident at the private village nursery he attended in Parbold, Lancashire.

Police said they were called to Lancaster Lane, Parbold, at 2.43pm on September 19 after reports a child had become unresponsive at the school. Paramedics were then called to the nursery in the grounds of Parbold Douglas C of E Academy and the boy was taken to hospital, where he died hours later despite care from medical staff. Lancashire Police said there are no suspicious circumstances and a file will be passed to HM Coroner.

The privately run nursery sits on the grounds of Parbold Douglas C of E Academy near Wigan and caters for children aged between one and five. It has been praised by Ofsted inspectors for providing a nurturing, home-from-home environment.

Locals said the child had collapsed after a choking incident, but police have not provided further detail. The boy’s family has asked for privacy as the investigation proceeds. The nursery has been approached for comment by the Daily Mail.
