An urgent recall has been issued for Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke sold exclusively at Costco after federal testers found Listeria monocytogenes in the green onions mixed into the ready-to-eat dish.

The recall covers more than 3,300 pounds of product shipped to Costco warehouses in 33 states. Pack dates on the affected lots are 9/18/2025 with sell-by dates of 9/22/2025. The tuna is packaged in clear plastic clamshell containers, labeled Kirkland Signature, and sold in Costco's deli section. Western United Fish Company, which does business as Annasea Foods Group, issued the recall.

FDA said the recall followed a positive test for Listeria monocytogenes in the green onions used in the product. The green onions were used only in the Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke item, and no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall to date. The agency said distribution appeared limited to the Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke sold at Costco outlets, with shipment records tracing back to the 9/18/2025 pack date.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and a range of other symptoms, typically appearing within a few days to a couple of weeks after exposure. While many infections are mild, the bacteria can cause severe illness in older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. In pregnant women, listeriosis can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or severe neonatal infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates about 260 people die annually in the United States from Listeria infections, making it the third-leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the country, behind Salmonella and Toxoplasma gondii.

Consumers who purchased the product should not eat it and should return it to the store for a full refund. Those who have eaten the product and develop symptoms—such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea—within the next several days should seek medical attention, especially if they are pregnant or have a weakened immune system.

This recall follows a prior incident last October involving Kirkland Signature smoked salmon recalled after testing detected Listeria in a supplier’s product. No illnesses have been publicly linked to the smoked salmon recall, and Costco has advised customers to discard or return affected items from that prior situation as well.

Representatives for Costco and Western United Fish Company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
