V-shaped UFO sighting over Los Angeles sparks debate on advanced tech
Witnesses captured images of a nine-light V-shaped craft; experts point to drones or top-secret terrestrial tech, as NUFORC tallies dozens of similar sightings in 2025.

Two Los Angeles residents reported sighting a black V-shaped craft with nine white lights hovering over the city on Aug. 28, according to a report submitted to the National UFO Reporting Center. The witnesses said the object remained in view for about 25 minutes, moved slowly southward, and vanished around 11:38 p.m. local time. They captured photographs and video on a cell phone, zooming in to view the nine lights along the hull.
The object was described as a V-shaped wedge with a small body at its center. The craft appeared to stay in roughly the same area for 25 to 30 minutes before moving slightly and eventually flying south out of sight. NUFORC’s one-word note asked Ultralight? The witnesses said the video quality at night made it unlikely to be AI or CGI.
UFO researcher Mark Christopher Lee told the Daily Mail that the craft was probably not an alien spaceship and was likely an unmanned drone testing new technology for the U.S. government or another major power. Lee said the sighting, like other famous incidents in the United Kingdom, could indicate that technology far ahead of public knowledge exists, but he emphasized there is no confirmation of its origin.
Regardless of origin, 2025 has produced a growing number of V-shaped sightings in the United States. NUFORC has logged 34 chevron sightings this year, with multiple reports describing a wedge or triangular shape with lights along its surface.
Los Angeles has a long history of UFO lore, including the 1942 Battle of Los Angeles. Lee said that while Los Angeles may not be an alien hotspot, it could be a hub for advanced human technology launched from nearby facilities such as Vandenberg Space Force Base, Edwards Air Force Base, and Area 51.
