Aaron Judge passes Yogi Berra on Yankees’ all-time home run list with 359th blast

Aaron Judge moved past Yogi Berra on the New York Yankees’ all-time home run list Tuesday night, belting his 359th career Yankee home run in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers.

The solo shot, Judge’s 44th of the season, came off right-hander Casey Mize and traveled an estimated 412 feet to right-center field at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 9, 2025. The blast put Judge ahead of Berra, who finished his Yankees tenure with 358 homers, and leaves Judge two shy of Joe DiMaggio’s 361 as a Yankee.

Judge had tied Berra at 358 on Aug. 31 and spoke then about what it would mean to move past the franchise icon. “To get a chance to tie one of the greatest, if not the greatest Yankees in homers, it’s pretty special,” Judge said at the time. “The way Yogi played the game, what he meant to pinstripes, you knew how much it meant being a New York Yankee to him. I feel the same way. I’m honored to wear this jersey, so it’s pretty cool to be on that list with him.”

Passing Berra is the latest milestone in Judge’s steady climb up the Yankees’ career leaderboard. While he now occupies a spot ahead of the Hall of Famer, the franchise’s top three remain well ahead: Babe Ruth with 659 homers as a Yankee, Mickey Mantle with 536 and Lou Gehrig with 493.

Tuesday’s homer was part of a first-inning rally that produced an early lead for New York, and it continued a prodigious power season for Judge. The shot also extended his run as the Yankees’ primary middle-of-the-order threat and reinforced his place among the franchise’s all-time sluggers.

Judge’s pursuit of DiMaggio’s 361 will be closely watched in the coming days as the regular season winds toward its conclusion. With longevity and consistency on his side, Judge has moved from chasing single-season marks to compiling career milestones that place him among the most prolific power hitters in Yankees history.
