Aaron Rodgers throws four TDs, Chris Boswell 60-yarder lifts Steelers to 34-32 win over Jets

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes and kicker Chris Boswell connected on a 60-yard field goal with 1:03 remaining as the Steelers rallied for a 34-32 victory over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The score capped a late drive that erased two nine-point Jets leads and handed Jets coach Aaron Glenn a loss in his first regular-season game at the helm. Rodgers finished with 244 yards passing and four touchdowns, while the Steelers defense pressured the Jets at key moments down the stretch.

Justin Fields, making his debut for the Jets, passed for 218 yards and three touchdowns, but New York squandered two separate nine-point advantages and managed just 12 yards over its final two possessions. One late series was an attempt to run out the clock, and the final sequence was aimed at getting into field-goal range; both efforts failed to produce points.

Boswell’s career-long 60-yarder came after Rodgers drove the Steelers into position following a turnover and a series of plays that moved the ball into Jets territory. The Jets had opportunities earlier to extend leads but were unable to sustain drives in the second half as Pittsburgh tightened defensively.

Rodgers, who joined Pittsburgh after being released by the Jets this offseason, returned to the stadium where he spent two seasons with New York. He completed passes to multiple targets and avoided costly turnovers while converting in critical moments that kept drives alive.

The Jets offense showed flashes, particularly on scoring drives led by Fields, whose three touchdown passes tied him with Rodgers for most in the game. But inconsistencies on third down and a failure to move the ball late prevented New York from setting up a potential game-winning field goal.

Glenn, in his first regular-season game as head coach, will take the loss but said after the game that he saw progress from his team despite the result. The Steelers, meanwhile, improved their record and will turn their attention to their next opponent having salvaged a road win after trailing at various points.

The game underscored a renewed rivalry atmosphere and raised immediate questions about late-game execution for the Jets. Pittsburgh’s ability to convert in the clutch gave the Steelers the margin of victory, while New York’s inability to capitalize on late possessions left the home crowd stunned.

Both teams will have time to evaluate film and address issues before their next matchups, with the Jets seeking to correct the end-of-game stagnation that allowed Pittsburgh to steal the win and the Steelers looking to build on a resilient offensive performance led by Rodgers.
