All Blacks retain Bledisloe Cup for 23rd straight year with 33-24 win over Wallabies

The All Blacks defeated Australia 33-24 at Eden Park in Auckland to retain the Bledisloe Cup for the 23rd consecutive year and extend their home dominance over the Wallabies.

New Zealand started quickly, with Caleb Clarke crossing inside three minutes and Leroy Carter adding a second try before Roigard touched down to push the lead to 20-3 midway through the first half. Australia responded with a try from Pollard and, just before the halftime whistle, a score by Harry Potter left the visitors trailing by three at 20-17. In the second half, two penalties from Damian McKenzie extended the lead, but a converted try from Wallaby flanker Carlo Tizzano kept the contest alive in the closing stages.

New Zealand restored some breathing room when Roigard crossed under the posts from a Jordie Barrett pass to seal the victory. The result left the All Blacks undefeated at Eden Park in 52 matches and extended their lead at the top of the Rugby Championship standings with one game remaining. South Africa could move level or top the table later on Saturday with their match against Argentina, while Australia sit in second with two wins and three losses and now prepare for their final Championship game, in Perth against New Zealand.

Australia have not won at Eden Park since 1986 and have now suffered 23 straight defeats at the venue. The Bledisloe Cup, contested annually between New Zealand and Australia, is decided over two matches in 2025; if the series ends 1-1, the holder retains the cup.

The victory underscores the All Blacks’ resilience after last weekend’s record defeat to South Africa, and it keeps New Zealand in control of the Rugby Championship heading into the final round of matches. Australia, meanwhile, will look to regroup as they close out the league phase with a road trip to Perth, aiming to end their drought at Eden Park and regain momentum ahead of next year.
