All Blacks retain Bledisloe Cup with 33-24 win over Australia at Eden Park

New Zealand defeated Australia 33-24 to retain the Bledisloe Cup for a 23rd consecutive year, in a victory that came after the All Blacks endured last weekend’s heavy defeat to South Africa. The win at Eden Park also extended New Zealand’s unbeaten run at the venue to 52 matches and left them top of the Rugby Championship with one round remaining.

Caleb Clarke crossed inside three minutes, and Leroy Carter and Cam Roigard added further tries to push the lead to 20-3 midway through the first half. The Wallabies responded through Billy Pollard and winger Harry Potter just before the break, leaving Australia trailing 23-20 at halftime.

Two penalties from Damian McKenzie extended the All Blacks’ advantage in the second half. Australia answered with a converted try from flank Carlo Tizzano to set up a tense final 10 minutes, but Roigard settled the result by crossing under the posts from a Jordie Barrett pass to seal the win and maintain New Zealand’s dominance at Eden Park.

New Zealand now lead the Rugby Championship with one match remaining, though South Africa can overtake them with a victory over Argentina later on Saturday. Australia sit in second with two wins and three losses and will finish the tournament in Perth next weekend when they face the All Blacks again. The two nations also compete for the Bledisloe Cup in 2025 in a two-match format, with the cup staying with the holders in the event of a 1-1 draw.

Australia have not won at Eden Park since 1986 and have now suffered 23 consecutive defeats at the venue.
