All Blacks retain Bledisloe Cup with 33-24 win over Wallabies at Eden Park
Roigard seals late winner as New Zealand extend Bledisloe Cup streak to 23 years

New Zealand beat Australia 33-24 at Eden Park on Saturday to retain the Bledisloe Cup for a 23rd consecutive year, finishing with a late muster of control that prevented a Wallabies comeback. The win also extended the All Blacks’ unbeaten run at Auckland’s stadium to 52 matches and kept them atop the Rugby Championship table ahead of later games this weekend.
New Zealand started the match strongly, with winger Caleb Clarke crossing inside three minutes and Leroy Carter and Cam Roigard adding further tries to establish a 20-3 lead midway through the first half. Australia answered through hooker Billy Pollard and winger Harry Potter as they closed the gap to three points by halftime, and the half-time whistle left the scoreboard at 20-17.
Two penalties from Damian McKenzie stretched the All Blacks’ lead in the second half, but a converted try from Wallaby flanker Carlo Tizzano set up an exciting final 10 minutes, bringing Australia within three points of their hosts for the first time in Auckland since 1986. The decisive moment came late when Roigard crossed under the posts from a Jordie Barrett pass to seal the win.
New Zealand now leads the Rugby Championship with one game remaining, though South Africa can overtake them with a victory over Argentina later on Saturday. Australia sit in second with two wins and three losses, heading into their final tournament match against the All Blacks in Perth next weekend. Australia have not won at Eden Park since 1986 and have now suffered 23 consecutive defeats at the venue.
The Bledisloe Cup is contested annually between the two nations. The 2025 edition is played over two matches; if the series ends 1-1, the cup remains with the holders.
